Yunona Tabala is a Russian-American lyric-coloratura based in Boston, MA. A strong believer in the healing powers of music and storytelling, Yunona is dedicated to sharing these gifts with audiences through opera and recital performances.
Last season, she enjoyed collaborating with such companies as West End Lyric (L'Amico Fritz as the cover Caterina) and Florida Opera Zarzuella (L'Elisir D'Amore as the cover of Adina). Yunona also had the honor of playing the role of Lady Giovanna during the world premiere of a one-act of chamber opera The Falcon by Robert Rogler in September of 2024.
In June 2024, she participated in the curation and presentation of a lecture recital dedicated to lives and art song heritage of the Garcia sisters: Pauline Viardot and Maria Malibran.
Yunona is serving as a soprano soloist and section leader at First Parish in Lexington Unitarian Universalist, where she frequently performs excerpts from treasured oratorio repertoire, including Mozart's Requirem, Handel's Messiah and Beethoven's Mass in C. It is with great anticipation that she is looking forward to taking part in a special Gaelic program with the group on November 11.
A committed educator, she serves on the faculty of New School of Music in Cambridge in addition to running her own private teaching studio in Watertown, MA. Yunona is an advocate for music education in public schools and is an active member of nonprofit Friends of Watertown Music, Inc.
MEDIA
For her Master's Degree Recital at Longy, Yunona presented a program that highlighted one of world’s leading vocal styles, Bel Canto. Bel Canto is a singing style that originated around 17 centuries in Italy, and quickly became prominent all around the world, with some of its main features being memorable melodies, soaring expressive lines and fast virtuosic singing (fioritura). It is no wonder that the literal translation of Bel Canto is “Beautiful Singing”!
Through music by Nicola Porpora, Mauro Giuliani, Gaetano Donizetti, Gioachino Rossini, Pauline Viardot, Ferenz Liszt, Gioachomo Mayerbeer and Eva Dell Acqua, this program explores a wide range of personal stories, funny and heartfelt situations, all while embracing the spirit of adventure and wonder.
With collaborative artists Sage Fogle (piano), Fred Springer (guitar), John Rogler (cello), DeShaun Gordon King (flute) and Thai Johnson (tenor).
